About Jennifer Perry, Family Law Barrister
I am passionate about Family Law and have specialised in this area for many years, providing legal advice to clients covering a wide range of family law, including relationship property law, parenting arrangements including care and contact. I have been a lawyer since 2003 and hold an LLB (Hons) from the University of Auckland.
Prior to become a barrister and being invited to join the respected Wyndham Chambers I worked for over 15 years in one of Auckland's oldest law firms, Keegan Alexander. Initially I practised in general civil litigation and have appeared in the District Court, High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. My litigation and commercial experience gives me a strong understanding of relationship property matters involving business and investment interests.
The majority of my clients are high net worth individuals who either wish to strengthen their relationship with their partner while clarifying their relationship property entitlements, or individuals who are separating and need to separate assets and possibly enter into parenting arrangements. I work with married couples, defacto couples and same-sex couples.
Separating couples often have children, interests or a number of friends in common. To avoid those uncomfortable post-separation encounters where your paths should cross, I am also trained in collaborative law and endeavour to assist clients to reach agreement with their former partner where possible (whether by way of facilitated mediation or otherwise).
A mediated, mutually agreed outcome is not always possible and, where necessary, I will forcefully promote my client's interests through the court and legal processes.
I am a member of the New Zealand Law Society and the Family Law Section of the New Zealand Law Society. Other memberships include Collaborative Advocacy New Zealand, Auckland Women Lawyers Association, The Auckland District Law Society and the New Zealand Bar Association.
